Brighter Generation Foundation provides mass donations to homeless students at North Dallas High School

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
May 2, 2018

The Brighter Generation Foundation, a (501(c)3 non profit organization led by Chairwoman Miriam Marsh Sifuentes recently provided a major diesel truck load of donations to help those in need in the Dallas/Ft Worth area. Items such as clothing, bottle water, non perishable food and more were given to much needed homeless families from the North Dallas High School program that works to create solutions for their 20% make up of the less fortunate that attend their school.

North Dallas High School was recently in the news for having the largest percentage of homeless youth, a staggering 20% of the total student body population is without a home to call their own. When the Brighter Generation Foundation heard and connected with North Dallas High School and their ongoing outreach to service their homeless children it was a simple decision to get them the much needed help. Upon receiving and distributing all the donated items, North Dallas High School Counselor, Barbara Scott-Ferguson had this to say, “The gratitude for receiving theses items for our students is just so overwhelming…in order for students to be successful they have to access to the basic needs of life … these donations will certainly help them in that endeavor!!!”.

The Brighter Generation Foundation could not have done this alone, the very generous help by Gil’s Trucking in West Dallas went way out of their way to store and deliver the donated goods to North Dallas High School and waiving all fees in doing so. We are very grateful to the entire family at Gil’s Trucking for offering to be there for us and the youth during their time of need.  Gilbert of Gil’s Trucking speaks from his heart when donating his time, services to those less fortunate, “I walk In the foot steps of the good Lord and my Dad. I’ve read and heard and seen a lot. You become more blessed when you give than when you receive.” Gilbert

Homeless kids fall under one of several categories:

  • They share housing due to loss of housing or economic hardship. They’re living in motels, hotels, trailer parks or camping grounds. They’re living in emergency or transitional shelters. They’ve been abandoned in hospitals. They’re awaiting foster care placement.
  • Their primary nighttime residence is a public or private place “not designed for or ordinarily used as a regular sleeping accommodation for human beings.”
  • They’re living in cars, parks, public spaces, abandoned buildings, substandard housing, and bus or train stations.
  • They’re migratory children who either are migratory agricultural workers or whose parents or spouses are migratory agricultural workers.

Chairwoman Miriam Marsh Sifuentes and team have worked feverishly to ensure the homeless and foster kids are not forgotten. Miriam had this to say,  “Foster and homeless youth are already at a disadvantage in life and really need help with basic needs, school completion, housing, and many other things. This is why we at Brighter Generation Foundation exist…to let our youth know that they are not forgotten and that we are here to help them build strong and sustainable foundations.” .
