OZOMATLI Brings the House down at The Kessler

I just returned from a fierce live music showcase and to see none other than one of my favorite “fusion” bands, OZOMATLI. Hailing from Los Angeles, OZO as their fans call them, are truly a fusion of Reggae, Funk, Latino, Hip Hop, Ska, Arabic and well, Cumbia!

The first time I saw OZOMATLI live was many years ago and I am not sure if it was the drinks I had prior to the show, the friends I was with at the time, or if was just the fact that OZOMATLI was performing but whatever it was, it was an experience! The journey that this band takes you on is one that never stops!  It’s one hot track after another.

From their classic hits such as “Cumbia De La Muerte”, “Cut Chemist Suite” to “Can’t Stop”, OZOMATLI never let up on giving Dallas, Texas a dose of their medicine. Someone shouted in the crowd “Orale” and that said it all, OZOMATLI is for and by their fans. They ensure inclusivity as their fans engage in one song after another.  Earlier in the evening I had the chance to catch a few songs from the opening act Quemikoz Del Son from Fort Worth, Texas and the fans absolutely loved them. Hard driven cumbias kept the Kessler Theater hopping.

I stayed long enough to hear them perform excerpts from their next CD and boy it was smoking. One track after another they gave us Reggae remix hits such as from Mana, Selena and many others and they announced working with world famous Jamaican producers Sly and Robbie. I cannot wait to get my hands on that next project.

I wish to thank Jeffrey Liles, Talent Buyer/Management of The Kessler for inviting us to enjoy this wonderful showcase. This was my first time to The Kessler and most certainly not my last. Visit them at www.thekessler.org.
