Our progressive movement of Social Latino and FORD recognized and honored four #MujeresLegendarias this past Thursday, September 18 at the Le Meridien Dallas Stoneleigh Hotel. The four women honored were Becky Muñoz-Diaz, general manager and vice president of Univision KUVN-TV Channel 23 and UniMas KSTR Channel 49 stations since 1995. Under her leadership, Univision 23 has been the top rated Spanish-language television station in the Dallas/Fort-Worth area. Another honoree was Beatriz (Bea) M. Salazar, she is the founder of Bea’s Kids, an organization that serves more than 150,000 high school students and their families at four tutoring centers located in low-income apartment complexes. The Texas native started her organization in 1990 when she realized that there were hundreds of children who went hungry during the summer because they did not have access to meals in school. Next we honored Linda Valdez Thompson, an executive vice president of Administration and Diversity at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. Since joining DFW Airport in 2001, she has established employee engagement initiatives to ensure the workforce is productive, healthy, diverse, and inclusive. She has also championed the Airport’s Wellness program with an on-site fitness facility and medical clinic.  Finally, we honored Zaida Basora, an assistant director of Dallas Public Works. Zaida is a registered architect and sustainability advocate with over 30 years of experience in public policy, planning and design. She has led and championed both the LEED green building program implementation for the city since 2003 and the development, adoption and implementation of the Dallas green building and construction codes since 2008.
